Yuck could be considered throwaway 90’s revival if their songs didn’t so deftly master the aesthetics that endeared alternative rock to masses two decades ago. Whatever lessons that era had to offer about songwriting – superimposing melody onto noise, infusing that melody with hooks, and doling out those hooks to maximum effect – Yuck absorbed them, distilled them, and rendered them in concentrated form. Ten variations of this sweet pop-grunge elixir grace their self-titled debut, and each sip will put a smile on your face.
