Are you borrowing your uncle’s pontoon and his CCR CD is too scratched, so you’re looking for an alternative soundtrack for a summer pleasure cruise? Let me introduce you to Herman Dune, the band. The French once-trio, now-duo was born in ’99 and has since been quietly gifting us classic, understated, mid-fi gems. Singer and songwriter David-Ivar Herman Dune pairs a distinct and disarming voice with charmingly specific lyrics. Musically, the Credence reference was not unintentional, there’s no over arrangement here: simple guitar solos, drums as accent, melody everywhere. Anyone that plays an instrument could play these songs, but few could write them. This is feel over flair, fresh unfermented formula. Bands like Mumford and Noah and the Whale should take note. This is how you do it.

Here’s the video (feat. Jon Hamm) for their new single, “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know.”
