It’s been over three years since 2007’s For Emma, Forever Ago, during which time Justin Vernon has escalated from local favorite into full-blown rockstar. In 2007, Vernon was playing tiny shows at The Nucleus. In 2010, he recorded with Kanye, and finally in June of 2011, he’ll release the long awaited follow-up to For Emma.

Currently, the only taste we’ve gotten of the as-yet-untitled album is a 51-second trailer from BonIver.org, embedded below:

As you can see, the trailer certainly doesn’t give much away – definitely a teaser, but in a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Vernon describes the writing process as very different from that of For Emma. “Somewhere along the line,” he said, “I forgot how to write songs.” Later in the interview, he details some of the songs from the 10-track sophomore LP, such as “Perth” – “a Civil War-sounding heavy metal song” with “a marching drum beat, a childrens’ choir and wailing guitars,” and “Beth/Rest”, which carries on the stoner tradition of his supergroup side project Gayngs, saying it’s “definitely the part where you pick up your joint and re-light it.”
