Ian Jacoby writes regularly for Volume One and Spectacular Failures Made Viable Quarterly. In the past he has taken jobs for money. These “jobs” included writing about rural football teams for the Durand Courrier-Wedge, and profiles of “community go-getters” for The Altoona Star.

He loves crushing dreams, making fun of hip hop, crushing the dreams of hip hop bands that add him on myspace, and myspace. Actually, he’s more of a facebook guy. His main complaint is that hip hop bands don’t add him on facebook. They add him on myspace.

He used to eat frozen pizzas like they were giant pizza cookies, then he got a girlfriend.

He currently works for Waldenbooks where his mind is not crushed by dream killers. I repeat, NOT crushed. He plays in some band you’ve never heard of.

The Wars of 1812 - Status Quo Ante Bellum

Pictured above: The Wars of 1812 are taking a timeout, you know, so they can think about what they’ve done.
The Wars of 1812 are the Twin Cities’ newest buzz-band. After a quick sign to Afternoon Records (along with local indie label, Ambledown) these guys have put together consistant show after consistant show. […]

The Cinematic Orchestra - To Build a Home

Pictured: The Cinematic Orche.. oh, I get it. He’s holding a camera. AND he’s in a band. Oh subtlety!
The Cinematic Orchestra are an art collective from England. They write music for movies, for performance, and for, well, listening. They are all over the place artistically. It’s really hard […]

Echo Bravo - Break it Out

Pictured: Echo Bravo in happier times. Oh, to be back in the middle of the great tandem bicycle craze of 2005.
Somtimes it’s good to revisit your roots. Echo Bravo was a great band in Eau Claire from 2004ish to 2005ish. The band was characterized as much by its in-fighting as it […]

John Nielsen - To The Postmodern Man

Pictured:  John Nielsen.  You can almost smell the hoagies from here.
John Nielsen is one of a seemingly endless stream of local artists who delve deep into their own psyche to write thoughtful, quiet, and beautiful pieces of art.  Bon Iver, Jon Sunde, and now Nielsen all live in the introspective space of late night […]

Mystery Jets - 21

Pictured above: Mystery Jets aren’t exactly NOT sketchy.
Mystery Jets is a band from ole Brittania that draws on The 80’s, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and cool, big hair. Their new album, 21 is equal parts haunting reverb and rockin’ party music. It’s really very hard to explain.
They’re a “prog” […]

Born Ruffians - Red, Yellow, and Blue

Pictured Above: Born Ruffians, subtle and refined.
Born Ruffians are a group of troubled youths from Toronto. They sing happy songs with reckless abandon. Their music is part post-punk, part folk, and part happy guy singing about his life.
Where Born Ruffians really succeed is in writing short, concise pop songs with just enough […]

Mystery Palace - Flags Forward

Pictured: Mystery Palace aren’t Justin Timberlakes stylists, but they could be.
I saw Mystery Palace for the second time ever a couple of weeks ago, and was completely dumbstruck. I’m not usually a big fan of skinny-ass white guys playing electronica, but this was different. Their sheer mastery of every aspect […]

Mark Ronson - Version

Pictured: Mark Ronson knows your songs better than they know themselves, not unlike music jesus.
Mark Ronson is the producer behind British wunderkinds/absolute fuck-ups, Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse. When he isn’t ruining young girls lives with booze and drugs (to be fair, I think Ronson only hits the booze.) He’s saucing […]

Nada Surf - Lucky

Pictured:  Nada Surf are writing music artfully, tearing up carpet  uneventfully.
I don’t know how Nada Surf does it, but they keep writing records that I love.  It’s so weird, because I know exactly what their next song is going to sound like, but it still manages to sound fresh, and beautiful, and more teenagery than I’ve […]

Sargasso Trio - Heels on Fire

Pictured:  The Sargasso Trio.  I know, I know, I know it looks like an Andy band.
The Sargasso Trio is just that, three people from Norwich writing and creating interesting British folk music.  Equal parts samba, bob dylan-folk, and electro-pop, The Sargasso Trio mixes all of that nonsense into an exciting, and danceable cocktail.  I must say that […]

The Coral - Dreaming of You

Pictured:  The Coral not being endangered at all.  Get over yourself Australia.
These guys are good.  I emphasize good.  There isn’t anything here that hasn’t been done before, but sometimes there are just songs that get stuck in your head.  These guys are from across the pond, and specialize in catchy, riffy, sixties rock.  This is […]

Peervalidated presents the best songs of 2007 draft board.

Pictured:  Adam Morrison.  Rest assured, he won’t be going number 1.
We’re not immune to “Best of” lists over here at Peervalidated.com.  Sure, it’s stupid and insipid to quantify and measure art (and incidently measuring how it is better than other art), but at the very least it’s a good way to showcase some of what […]

The Best of what we missed ‘07 - Rock Four

Peervalidated will update our website everyday for the remainder of this old year with a few of the great things we missed.  It could be because we’re lazy, it could be because we didn’t hear of it, it could simply be because we forgot.  Here’s one such band/song/genre/etc…

The Best of what we missed ‘07 - Indie bands doing kids songs

Peervalidated will update our website everyday for the remainder of this old year with a few of the great things we missed.  It could be because we’re lazy, it could be because we didn’t hear of it, it could simply be because we forgot.  Here’s one such band/song/genre/etc…
