The Wars of 1812 - Status Quo Ante Bellum

Pictured above: The Wars of 1812 are taking a timeout, you know, so they can think about what they’ve done.

The Wars of 1812 are the Twin Cities’ newest buzz-band. After a quick sign to Afternoon Records (along with local indie label, Ambledown) these guys have put together consistant show after consistant show. The Wars have all the subtlety of Wilco doing the soundtrack to a Wes Anderson movie. The melodies are simple and sweet, the arrangements beautifully understated.

It won’t come through here, but The Wars live show is not to be missed. I’m sick of seeing posts on the internet that say, “This album is great, BUT see the live show.” I’m not going to tread down this tired path. Yes, The Wars of 1812 have a helluva live show. Lead Singer, Peter Pisano screams and growls and claws his way through a full hour of pure rock n’ roll. It’s a real shit storm on stage.

The album is equally great, if more restrained. Where the live show is a bloody bomb on your front porch, the album is the phone call that starts the coup. The lyrics range from kiss-off to punch-packing. The keyboards throughout the album are alternately cute and mind blowingly musical. It’s nice to see that real piano parts didn’t die with Coldplay.

Anyway, this is something you’ll be hearing a lot of for the next few months. Enjoy, “Radios Unsigned” by The Wars of 1812.
