This is taking the Lazy River ride in a water park filled with turbulence and fear. The slumping easiness of a free floating raft and your closest friends. Lighthouse for Stragglers’ Eyes would let us off if we ever felt too scared to go on, but the chances are slim. Daniel Noble and Emma Baxter are the duo behind Montreal’s Orillia Opry, leading us through their new album with ease, weaving Noble’s high tenor and falsettos and Baxter’s harmonies around spacey-folk songs. Half of what makes this effort so great is what the band doesn’t try to do on it. Orillia Opry simply nails down the lackadaisical value of our whimsy thoughts.
This song has been on repeat in my head for the past few weeks. You’d be absolutely silly not to head over to Saidthegramophone’s post of a fan video for the song. They’re winding down on their “Wonderful Video Contest” this year, and it’s been great so far.
