The Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride

Most likely not a high-note in John Darnielle’s career, he joined a Christian Reggae group called ‘Irie, INRI’ in 2002, and then was kicked out after telling the members of the band that H.P. Lovecraft had reworked the Books of Moses and called it Cthulhu Mythos. It’s a tough life, brother.

Darnielle has been diligently making music under the name The Mountain Goats since 1991. In that time, he’s had 16 international album releases on cassette, vinyl and/or CD, plus well over 20 songs on various compilations. Still, neither his name nor the name of his band is thought of as a high profile tag. In lieu of such disappointment, Darnielle continues to satisfy himself and his near-cult following with songs and albums heavy on mostly acoustic folk-rock and lyrical themes of mythology, not unlike that of highly successful indie-dork Colin Meloy of The Decemberists fame.

The Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride

The new Mountain Goats album comes out in two weeks and is even better than I had hoped for. This is the title track from the forthcoming Heretic Pride. You can also head over to Weekend America to hear a piano balled Darnielle made for Super Tuesday.
