Jakobinarina sound like Andrew W.K. sped up. Booming drums, blaring synth, and a penchance for almost punk rock guitars. It is intense to say the least. I don’t know anything about these guys, and I don’t really want to. I heard this song somewhere in the annals of the internet, and it struck me as being really fun, really fun to dance to, and really, um, not as smart as some other music.
Does this take away from “His Lyrics are Disasterous” at all? No! We aren’t always reinventing the wheel here. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to listen to music because someone I respect said it was amazing. Sometimes cred people get it right (Brian Eno) and sometimes there is a reason why not a ton of people like it (Xiu Xiu). That being said, one could say that an mp3 blog is inherently pretentious and should curb its musical inclinations to fit the venue. To that I say, “Suck it.”
Long story short: Good music. Not a lot of thinking. Intensity. Finals.
P.S. I guess they’re from Iceland, so all the stuff I said about not being cred… well, you can just throw that right out the goddamned window. Saved!
