Josh Ritter - The Historical Conquests of

Yeah, if someone’s going to self proclaim to be a guide throughout world history, he/she(probably a he) better be damn good. I’m not saying that Josh Ritter wanted to do that by calling his newest album The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter, but he did do it, and so that is how I will judge him.

That said, Josh Ritter has been one of my favorite Americana/folk songwriters over the past few years. He started very well with a self-titled CD in 1999, and progressed with each of the 4 full-length releases after that. So, by the laws of common mathematics and science, that means he’s at least 4 times better than he was when he started. Music is simple math, dude. With The Historical Conquests, Ritter continues his lengthy survey of human emotions. I’m not sure why his name isn’t mentioned with the likes of Ryan Adams and some of the bigger names in today’s indie-folk genre, but it should be. Is he not pretty enough for you, is that it? Because that’s pretty rude of you to say. Man, I write for a bunch of monkeys. In his defense, I did choose the ugliest picture of him I could find, just to make the end of this paragraph better.

Josh Ritter - Mind’s Eye

Anyhow, I really think this guy’s discography is one of the more important ones made by a songwriter in the past decade or so. This is Mind’s Eye from The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter.
