Pictured: Bombay Bicycle Club shows what happens when “Take Your Child to Work Day” goes horribly wrong.
Bombay Bicycle are a bunch of fresh faced guys from London who write catchy, fast pop songs. I don’t use the words, “fresh faced” lightly. We feature a lot of really young bands on here, but I think these guys take the cake. They’re like 17. For real. All of them. Until we put up a Smoosh review (will never happen), I think these guys can take the puberty crown and wear it with pride.
I’m not sure if the title of the E.P. is funny or ironic, but if these guys are talking about how much they’ve grown, let’s review what I was doing when at the tender age of16.
1) Pining over things.
2) Practicing trombone.
3) Playing mediocre tennis.
What were these guys doing? Nothing but making a cohesive, fun, dancy, and jangly pop record. Equal parts Pedro the Lion (happy Bazan, not pissed Bazan), Bright Eyes (ditto for Connor), and The Strokes, BBC makes people do the thing they were born to… shut the “H” up and dance. Yeah “H”, I don’t use such letters lightly.
The standout track on the E.P. is the song, Open House. It starts out with a hook and a melody and only gets hookier and more melodic from then on. Someone please make these guys famous. It can’t be that sweet living in your parents house if you’re making this sort of music, even if you are 17.
