Pictured: Tegan and Sara probably aren’t from around here.
OK, let’s start this off by saying this: I am not a Tegan and Sara fan. At all. Maybe it’s the negative stigma attached to liking bands like Tegan and Sara or Bell and Sebastian, maybe it’s the fact that I find it hard to culturally relate to really attractive, canadian lesbians. Who knows? It’s probably my fault. I’m willing to take responsibility, but like a certain mediocre Atlanta quarterback, only up to a point.
Tegan and Sara have always just seemed really, erm, typical… that is until now. Maybe it’s me growing up and pussing out, but the new T&S has some real, genuine songs on it. I suspect that maybe T&S have done the growing though, as a lot of my friends who like them have said that this album, “doesn’t sound right”. To which I reply, “great!”
The standout track is definitely the song, Nineteen. It sounds like a polished Sleater-Kinney song, with less angst and more “oh man, back to school is a bummer”. The drums are sweet. The vocals are tight. The choruses soar. Those are my scientific opinions.
