School of Language - Rockist Part 1

Pictured: What? I don’t know. Musicians are weird. Whatever.

“Sit down, class. Jimmy, you’re late again. Go to the office.”

“But Mr. Brewis!”

“No buts in my class, Mr.”

As corny an idea as it may seem, Field Music’s David Brewis’ new song sounds like a lesson taught in some quirky private school, and it isn’t corny at all. Rockist Part 1 begins by looping the vowel sounds, A, E, I, O, U, and throwing them from your left speaker over to your right. In the middle of this, Brewis slides in a completely sweet and charming song. In a way, this screams low-fi indie-rock to me. Not in a shitty-production, make me want to kill myself kind of way, but in the ideas and creativity behind the song. It almost makes me feel like maybe people with real, actually worthwhile ideas are still making music. Almost.

This is currently unreleased, but with attention from Saidthegramophone.com, as well as Pitchfork, and now even PeerValidated.com, you can most likely expect some news of a release in the near future. For now, check out School of Language’s Myspace page.

Whoa, this song is amazing. I hope the album is consistantly good, not like the Field Music album I reviewed a couple of months ago.
