Pictured: Silversun Pickups, they know at least one more girl than most shoegaze bands.
Silversun pickups play sort-of-shoegaze-esque, indie rock. They have guitars that sometimes sound like they were recorded in the bottom of The Edge’s deepest cavern of reverb. They have a drummer who sort of just hits an occasional cymbal for a fill. They have a keyboard player who mostly nods his head to the beat. Some days they get a little too cute for their own good. Mostly though, their new single is the best thing for you to listen to while
A) holding hands with your girlfriend.
1.5) going on trips to out of town diners.
3B) quietly studying in your room with one bulb burning.
Lazy Eye at the beginning sort of sounds like a song that Billy Corgan would’ve written if he could actually write good music. It has that weird, 1996ish guitar bend riff thing going, and the baseline is about 2 steps away from being played by Kim Deal (The Breeders era Kim, not The Pixies). What starts out as an 90’s alt. rock song, quickly branches out into a wall of guitar, reverby freak-out. and it’s awesome.
Lazy Eye has already been featured in about a bazillion things including, The O.C., some stupid WB shows, and the upcoming Spiderman, so there is definitely the possibility of hearing this song a bazillion times and getting sick to death of it. But c’mon dude, don’t let fear run your life again. Shit, man.
