This post may completely ruin all the cred I have, but so be it. I’ve been playing the new MLB game a ton. A ton. I mean, I’m neglecting school work, friends, and family. It’s not a healthy thing. For some odd reason, the creators of MLB 2k7 decided to chock the game full of indie rock. They even have Tapes and Tapes in the majority of their advertising. Yeah, 4 skinny guys with patchy facial hair from Minnesota are getting more pub than Derek Fricking Jeter. Suck on that, New York.

Anyway, this song comes up about every 3rd time on my franchise menu. The first couple of times I heard it, I thought it was just some awful pop-punk band. Then my brain broke and I had Harvey Darger-esque visions and magically, the song was amazing. Without further ado, here’s a comprehensive list of why my broken brain is completely right.

1) It’s got really, really loud guitars.

2) The line, “They lift up their lighters and sing so sweetly” may encourage Springsteenian sing alongs, while the line, “We all hurt the same” will encourage teary, drunken hugs in the shitty sports bars it is played in.

3) There are like 5 guys who sing the chorus. At once. Sweet.

4) It ends in a round.

5) My Brewers MLB team went 23-5 in instances when it came up on the select screen.

Yes, OK technically it was recorded in 2003. Yes, when I got the rest of the album it was horrible. Yes, it maybe is sort of The Hold Steady Lite, but why are you over thinking this stuff? It’s the song of summer, not a treatise on maritime law. If it’s shiny, dumb, and fun to sing along to, then it’s done its job. No contest.
